AO.com: Driving TV sales in electrical retail through a summer of sport

Cultural moments are proven to drive sales, and there’s nothing quite like a global football competition to help ecommerce brands increase revenue. Working with the UK’s most trusted electricals retailer, AO.com, No Brainer was asked to create a campaign focused on the brand’s wide-ranging TV and AV category during a big summer of sport in 2026. AO needed an integrated and creative, search-first strategy that would drive navigational demand, help the brand dominate the cultural conversation, and position them as the go-to destination for TV upgrades.

The brief

International football tournaments represent one of the biggest high-stakes moments for retail brands, with a huge battle for attention and search visibility.

Working in partnership, the challenge for No Brainer was to pivot from chasing generic traffic to driving highly qualified, navigational online search demand. The goal was to fundamentally shift how users searched for TVs, and crucially, how Google and AI platforms saw AO’s authority as a trusted brand in the space.

Our role was to work collaboratively with AO’s SEO, PR and social media teams to create cultural moments that didn’t just talk about football, but focused on the experience of watching England and Scotland from a living room. Having conducted research ahead of the competition, and with the time difference of a US-based competition, we knew that football fans across the UK were more likely to watch the games at home. It was a key insight that we leaned into.

What we did

  • The Home Advantage campaign – we turned a retail brief into a cultural moment, focusing on the benefits of watching football with home comforts rather than the sport itself.
  • SEO – We shifted focus from generic “TV” keywords to driving searches specifically for “AO TVs” to capture high-intent buyers.
  • Always-on PR & Newsjacking – we leveraged survey-led data stories, reactive sales data, and expert commentary to secure coverage and help AO dominate the news agenda.
  • Authority-Driven Link Building – we targeted high Domain Authority (average 66) tech, deals, and national news sites to build 37 total links (15 follow links) directly to priority TV category pages.
  • High-Impact Stunt – we developed and amplified a viral wedding day stunt that generated nearly 1 million organic views and secured national media coverage with zero paid spend.
  • Social Search Integration – we also wove priority search terms into social content (TikTok, Facebook and Instagram) to test and capture early purchase journey discovery via platform search.
  • Expert Profiling – we built the authorship profile of AO’s internal TV expert to strengthen credibility, secure media cut-through, and reinforce EEAT signals.

The results

AO recorded a 23% year-on-year increase in TV sales throughout June 2026, as reported in the Guardian. Other results from the campaign included:
